Wattles are a mainstay in erosion control applications. Wattles are tubes filled with compacted fiber, straw or other materials installed along contours or at the base of slopes to help reduce soil erosion and retain sediment. They function by shortening slope length, reducing runoff water velocity, trapping dislodged soil particles and ameliorating the effects of slope steepness. Wattles are effective when used in combination with re-vegetation practices, surface roughening, mulching, erosion control blankets or hydraulic soil stabilizers.
"EarthKnit" wattles can be factory filled and shipped to the site or site filled provided suitable materials are present. The selection of tube diameter and aperture size is dependent on the end use and the fill material. "earthKnit" standard size diameters are 9", 12", 16" and 20 inches. Standard apertures are 1/2", 3/4", 1", and 1-1/4 inches.
